Jack is over 13 months old now, 10 months adjusted age. He has four teeth on the bottom, and working on the fourth up top. He’s not walking yet, but that doesn’t prevent him from behaving like any less of a toddler. He has restless nights, and fits of fury; screeching at me like a golden eagle every time he wants something he cannot have. He climbs on the furniture when he’s not chewing on the furniture. His strength is incredible; literally he is so strong it’s scary.
Lately, Jack has been talking up a storm. He loves to say ‘Hi’ and ‘Bye’ always with a little wave of his hand. He’s been experimenting with different sounds, and tones of voice, also mimicking and repeating. He still calls me ‘Baba’, but we are working on ‘Mama’. When the phone rings, or if someone gets a text or a notification, he hears it and he says ‘Hi!!!’. Sometimes he’ll say it over and over as loud as he can, even if he’s in another room.
My favorite new thing that Jack does is he points with his index finger. Not in a rude way, but in a curious and thoughtful way. He points at the pages and pictures in books when I or anyone else reads to him. He points at things he wants to eat or do or play with. He uses his index finger to gently touch the dog or cat, or to spin the wheels of his toy truck, or to pluck the strings on his toy guitar, or press the keys on his toy piano.
Jack is all boy. He’s discovering cars and trucks and he loves to watch them. We are going to take him to the vintage car show this summer, which should be really fun. I can’t wait for the weather to get a little warmer, so we can take him to the beach, to play in the water, and sand. We’re also looking into swimming lessons for him this summer. He definitely needs more outside activities and stimulation. He always sleeps better at night if he’s had a full day of stimuli.
