Winter Break

Fall semester is over, and I am presently enjoying the second of two consecutive days off. I was going to wait to blog about my fall semester until after grades have been posted, but decided that I am proud of myself regardless of grades. Like last semester I did not miss any class time or any assignments. But unlike last semester I took nine units instead of six, and worked five days a week, with my only days off being school days.

I was not alone in my endeavor, my husband and MIL picked up my slack and supported me through every deadline. Jack tolerated my absence from the home and obliged to play nicely while I did homework alongside him in the kitchen or living room.
Much of the time I felt guilty for having to arrange and prioritize my quality time with him so rigidly. But I never wavered where my school work was concerned. I did, however, call off to work when Jack needed his mama at home, or when my back hurt too much, or when both Graham men were sick.

As I was wrapping up my final exams earlier this month, I was also knee deep in holiday shoppers at my job. My stress level reached an all time high and my eye began to twitch regularly. Jack was acting out and being extra sensitive, calling himself a baby and insisting I carry him everywhere. One of those nights I was putting Jack to bed, and I told him that I was almost finished with the semester, and would soon have a whole month off. He let out a big sigh and gave me a sad and severe look.

Later the next day I was thinking about Jack, and all the time together we had to sacrifice, and I decided to register for just two classes for the spring semester. As much as I want to push my way through school as hard as I can, I also need Jack to know that he is my number one priority.

I can always take a class in the summer to make up the difference. Jack is growing and changing so quickly that I want to be as present for him as possible. I want him to know that his mama works hard and tries her best, and sometimes I can not be with him, but that he is my reason for everything.

December 25th 2015

Jack let us sleep until 8 am on Xmas morning. When he did wake up, he proceeded to jump up and down in his crib and holler loudly, as is his usual morning custom. I gave him a cup of whole milk while I changed him, then we walked hand in hand into the front room where the tree was all lit up, with all the presents stuffed underneath it.

Beneath the tree, Jack found a star shaped light all lit up, to which he exclaimed “WOW” over and over again.
He also found a set of large baby legos in assorted colors, and he liked those very much too. By this time, Jacks daddy and grammy were both awake and readying themselves for the event about to unfold.

Before long, Jack was being swallowed up by paper and bows and more toys than he knew what to do with, and soon enough he became very cranky and needed to lay down, and he wasn’t even thru unwrapping yet.

While Jack napped, I showered and dressed and then set to work in the kitchen. I didn’t have much cooking to do, I was just making mashed potatoes that I was taking over to Jacks auntie Kim’s house because we were having Xmas dinner over there with the rest of the family.

We left the house around 1:30 pm and made the short drive over to Jack’s auntie Kim and uncle Dan’s house. Jack’s arrival went over without incident, and he settled in quite nicely. He was especially fond of the ceiling fan in her dining room ( we don’t have any ceiling fans) and kept exclaiming “WOW” as he was obviously impressed. Auntie Kims house also has stairs (we don’t) (knocks on wood) and Jack was obsessed with walking up and down them with either his daddy or my assistance.

After opening more gifts as a family, we sat down to a beautiful dinner prepared by Jacks’s uncle Dan. Jack didn’t eat as much as I would have liked. Between the stairs and the ceiling fan, he was preoccupied. By nightfall, we were all completely wore out and 6:30 pm felt more like 10:30 pm, so we loaded up the car and drove home under the full Xmas moon.

Holiday Photos 2015

Behold. Our official holiday family photos for 2015. My beloved husband and mama in law helped take the photos. Jack didn’t really feel like holding still much at all, but we did our best. We also skipped the mall Santa and hit up our public library instead. 🙂
